Sing Along Special

This Friday, we present two musicals from the mind of Joss Whedon: Once More, With Feeling the musical episode of Buffy, and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Feel free to print out the lyrics and join the chorus, or obsessively memorize beforehand.
As it was last movie night, so it shall be again. You can come to the club room at 5:30 or Buchanan D201 at around 6, or you can show up at the club at 4:30 to play Quidditch before the show.

PS: the club food and drink supplies should be restocked by Friday, so bring some change :D

A Night to Remember (Remember)

Our next movie night being Nov. 5, we thought it would be appropriate to watch V For Vendetta. Join us in Buchanan D201 at 5:30, or come to the office at 4 for a bracing round of Quidditch before the show.

A chance to get yourself published!

Just passing the message along. If you are interested, you should get in contact with Zi-Ann very soon. Just send an email to ziannlum@gmail.com.

Hi Science Fiction Society!

My name is Zi-Ann Lum and I am the Editor-In-Chief of (UBC) Perspectives. My team and I were just piecing together out November issue and we had a article idea that we think would be best suited for a member of your club if anyone is interested and can write a great entertaining article about.

The issue's theme is Arts & Culture and we wanted to feature a Opinion piece about the fan-fiction phenomenon. The article can be approached from any angle, praising it or criticizing it. Throwing in a couple examples would be great. It by no means has to be formal. We're looking for a short article, around 500-600 words. If you have any aspiring graphic artists, we also welcome a graphic supplement to the article.

If you have any one on your Executive team, general members, or friends that have a opinion about fan-fiction, we welcome your contribution to our November issue. We can put in a plug for your club at the end as well.

Out magazine is also committed to promoting campus club events in one events listing. So if you guys have any events (one-time or on-going) that you're going to hold in November, feel free to submit a event listing under 100 words + event info (where, when, price) and we'll be sure to include it in our Events page. Submissions to our November issue are due on Thursday (October 27th).

Partay Down... for Halloween

Big news, everyone: we are having a Halloween party next Thursday, October 28th. It will be starting at 7 pm and ending at midnight, and it will happen in SUB rooms 211, 213 and 215, which all have those sweet fold-away accordion walls, and can be combined into one big huge room.

There will be movies. There will be games. There will be surprises (which, according to rumour, may involve Kirk and Spock...) and more!
Be there. Wear a costume. We'll geek out together. It will be rad.

Movie Night: Escape From Everywhere!

That's right folks. Kurt Russell (as Snake Plissken) escapes from two cities in one night!
It's about to blow the future apart... You gotta problem with that?
Check out the trailers for Escape from New York and Escape From L.A. I can't do these movies justice with mere words.
Same bat time: this Friday at 5:30
Same bat place: the SFS club office, then somewhere on the second floor of Buchanan D.

Writing Circle

Our Social Coordinator Peter sent this out a while ago, but it bears repeating here, especially if people feel like brainstorming together in the comments section.

Hello SFSers!

In ages past, there was a (admittedly rather short-lived) SFS writing circle. I rather like the idea, so this email is to see if there's any interest in such a thing.

The principle is that a bunch of people get together, read/critique, and generally work on writing. Given that this is, after all, the Science Fiction Society, I will not bother giving you guesses as to what the emphasis would be on.

Either way, get back to me if you're interested! If it seems like there's a critical mass of folks, we'll get some meetings together and get with the writing.

Redesign

No cause for alarm, the content hasn't changed. Just thought I'd try out the bookshelf theme, for obvious reasons if you've seen our club room :)
