Ammendment to the ammendment to the previous post.

WAIT NO. It's 1:30, as originally stated. UNCHANGE YOU CHANGED PLANS, NON-EXISTENT PEOPLE WHO DEPEND ON THIS BLOG AS A SINGULAR SOURCE OF INFORMATION.

Ammendment to the previous post

In the last post I wrote that the picnic is at 1:30pm on the Wednesday the 25th: this is partly false.

The scheduled start time is, in actuality, 4:30pm. Make no mistake!

END OF YEAR PICNIC

Done with exams? Roaming around Vancouver listlessly? Attend the SFS end-of-year event!

Trimble Park at 1:30pm, this Wednesday the 25th. Food, games, dinner afterwards and good times all assured in great quantities.

And that will just about wrap up the 2011-2012 year for us here at SFS. For those of you leaving, godspeed; for those of you returning, let's do this all again in September! It will be pleasant. In the meantime, enjoy your summers, all of you.

Movie Night: Deadly Races

Ah, and another year has already come to a close. This Friday marks the last movie night of Winter term 2012, and that means the theme of the evening is, in keeping with tradition, "decidedly irresponsible motoring."

Heading up the bill, of course, is the classic  Death Race 2000, in which men in psychedelic battle-convertibles and silly helmets race across America in the far-flung dystopian future of twelve years ago. Seventies sci-fi/action cinema at its finest.

And to accompany it, we have the mindbending anime Redline, another film about all the ridiculously dangerous racing that will very definitely happen in the future. That aforelinked trailer looks like it would be right at home on a 90's arcade machine with a flashing INSERT COIN subtitle, and I mean that as the highest sort of praise.

Having seen neither of these myself, I'm rather excited. As usual, the appointed time and place is Buchanan 215 at 5:30pm. See you there.

Movie Night: Universal Classics

It's every-other-Friday again. Tonight we're honoring the 100th anniversary of Universal Studios by choosing two of their classic films: Frankenstein followed by Back to the Future.

Movie Night: Mutant Animals

It's movie night again. Tonight's theme: the dangers of radiation, specifically "it invariably turns wildlife into unstoppable killing machines."

The lineup includes the 1957 let's-call-it-a-classic Attack of the Crab Monsters, followed by the wonderfully titled Day of the Animals, which is essentially "some hikers vs. all animals of all kinds."

Time and place are 5:30pm in Buchanan B215 respectively.

Movie Night: Robots

It's every-other-week again! Tonight's theme is robots, and, secondarily, things breaking (usually robots.) I for one am quite excited, as I consider myself a staunch robot-enthusiast.

The bill includes the recent sci-fi/sports feature Real Steel, and the 1993 Raygun Gothic mech-romp Robot Wars.

Movie Night: Pirates vs. Ninjas

We're back for 2012! And this Friday, movie nights resume as usual. This weeks theme: Pirates vs. Ninjas, in honor of dated memes everywhere.

Representing pirates is Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl - the first one, from when the franchise retained some measure of adventuresome charm - and representing ninjas is Ninja Assassin, which is exactly what it says on the tin and all the better for it.

See you at 5pm in Buchanan B213.
